Steam Watchdog is a permanently installed, self-powered sensor that turns hidden steam-trap failure into a continuously visible, actionable signal.
01 / The opportunity
“Between 15%–30% of installed steam traps may have failed in systems that have not been maintained for 3–5 years.”
— U.S. Department of Energy
Steam traps are small, overlooked assets that quietly decide where a plant’s energy goes. Manual inspection is infrequent, labour-intensive, and difficult to scale — especially in hazardous areas.
A single blow-through trap on a 10-bar line can waste 200–800 kg of steam per hour. The cost is not just energy: leaking steam damages condensate equipment, increases risk, and erodes reliability.
Meet the always-on answer ↓02 / The product
Steam Watchdog clamps directly to a steam trap and listens, learns, and reports — continuously. It harvests its own power from the temperature differential between hot process equipment and ambient air.
